Very true. Some squeakers and minors are wise/mature beyond their years, whereas some fully grown adults have left me absolutely flabbergasted. Example being the delightful chap who messaged a friend I was playing with, wishing cancer on all our mothers. We didn't even out and out stomp. Go figure.
I remember when I was 16, I asked my parents to get GTA3 for me. They told me that if I could manage to buy it for myself I could have it, and if I didn't turn into a raging ball of froth I could keep it. I sheepishly plucked up the courage to give it a go, and came home with the game all happy and smug To be quite honest thats more or less the approach I'll be taking with my son, though I will be putting parental controls in place on the console
